Bilingual by Five is a bilingual early learning centre for children from birth until school age.
Here are some things that we care about:
Who? What? Why?
We believe our children are best supported by drawing perspective and insight from many different branches of learning, philosophies and pedagogy. As such, our practice, pedagogy and learning environments are informed by the schools of Reggio Emilia, Howard Gardner’s multiple intelligences, Rudolf Steiner and Maria Montessori.
We are always looking to grow our knowledge of current early childhood research. We regularly review our practice in the light of new ideas, and seek to integrate the best elements of each.
It takes a village to raise a child
We recognise that parents, caregivers and the family are the most integral stakeholders of their children’s learning and development. Thus, we are purposed to create a space where both the community and the children are able to educate, nurture and inspire one another.
The environment as the ‘third teacher’
Children feel confident and comfortable when they have ownership over their own space and learning. Our environments embrace natural light, tones, free flow between indoor and outdoor learning areas, veggie patches, growing things, mirrors, home corners, art and music studios. Children are directly involved in creating and caring for these spaces.
One child, two languages
Our centre has a specialised bilingual early childhood program in which we incorporate Mandarin and English into our daily routines and learning. Our goal is for children to be proficient and comfortable in both Mandarin and English by the time they transition from our centre. More than language learning, our programs are holistic and strive to support children, families and educators on their journey of becoming the most they can be.
We do not inherit the Earth, we borrow it from our Children
We recognise that educators, parents and the community have a responsibility to ensure the future of the earth our children will inherit. Sustainability education is not a separate subject, it’s embedded across our daily program of activities and can be fun, engaging, and empowering. This allows children to take pride in their own actions and to contribute their vision for a sustainable future.
We cannot think well, play well and sleep well until we have dined well.
Research shows that nutrition in a child’s early years is linked to their health and academic performance in later years. At Bilingual by Five, we provide delicious and nutritious meals as well as educating children in making good decisions on healthy eating habits. Our veggie patch and garden are places where children get to see food grow with their own eyes. Children will also enjoy different cuisines in our yummy seasonal menu.
